Practice Management | David Samuel Coaching

Management Development Program

In most optical practices, the day to day running of the business is delegated to the Practice Manager. This role is often given to an individual because they have been there a long time, they are trusted by the owner or they are "senior" within the practice. Whilst these reason might seem to make sense, if the role is given without the necessary support, skills or knowledge about what it takes to "manage", the practice continues failing to fulfil it's potential.

This program changes that because it is designed specifically for both new and experienced practice managers to give them the skills and the knowledge to manage the changes required to move the practice forward. It is a practical program designed to make a real difference to the success of the business. The Program Includes the 6 week "Positive Intelligence ©" Program, equipping the manager with the resiliance and positive mental fitness to successfully take their teams through change.

It is a practical program using real life situations and as each delegate will be in a group with non-competing peers, they can share their experiences confidentially to gain real life takeaways to implement back in the business.

About the Management Development Program

Here are the 3 key elements to this program...

1

Monthly Group Meetings

Each month, delegates will attend a two-hour interactive session exploring one of the six key areas of management. Real life examples, from the delegates, will be used to help the delegate make impactful changes back in the business. This format allows delegates to test and apply ideas in real-time. To support flexible learning, all sessions will be recorded.

The course is delivered over 6 months, covering six key topics:

- Creating and managing a high performing team

- Creating competitive advantage

- Driving customer loyalty

- Mastering marketing

- Effective communication

- Knowing your numbers – financial and KPI management

2

1-1 Coaching

The course includes a monthly 1-2-1 session with the coach, David Samuel, arranged at a suitable time with the delegate. These sessions are valuable, confidential discussions whereby any challenges and issues can be discussed in private with the coach and are designed to help implement the learning in practice.

3

Peer group Support

Each course is run in small cohorts of between 6 and 12 delegates. No practice is within 10 miles of another, which allows delegates to share confidentially their challenges and specific circumstances. Delegates, working an a Peer group style, will help their colleagues by sharing their own experiences and ideas of how certain problems can be solved or opportunities capitalised on.

David, as group chair will of course, offer his own view of these challenges and bring his 40 years of experience to the table.

Delegates can then go back into practice and test and measure new ideas to see how they work in reality, with the group holding each other to account and expecting to hear about progress in the group WhatsApp forum.

Your investment...

The investment in the program is £1697 per delegate, payable in 3 tranches of £567 + VAT. My personal goal is that we see a tangible payback of that investment within the first 3 months allowing the owner to stop worrying about the cost and instead focus on the program and what it can do for the practice.

In the short term, I would expect a typical practice, turning over say, £600K to improve it's gross profit by at least £20K per annum. This would be achieved through increased average sales per patient, improved pricing, cost reduction and better staff performance.

Longer term, I would expect to see further increases in profitability, as the effects of improved patient retention, reduced wastage from remakes, improved terms with suppliers, better recruitment and and lower staff turnover.

Hence the cost of NOT developing the management team, whether through this program or by an alternative method, is quite frankly, eyewatering!
